Q:

Understanding Insurance Code 120 for Rental Cars

A:

Our cars are insured with AXA. Insurance code 120 indicates that a rental car has fully comprehensive insurance. This covers most damages to the vehicle during your rental period, but with some important exceptions:

Commercial Use: Code 120 is not valid for commercial passenger transport.

Minor damage: You will be liable for an allowance of 5,000 baht if no other party involved in the collision is represented and the damage can be repaired on Koh Phangan for less than 5,000 baht. The insurance company considers this to be negligence on the part of the driver. In addition, an administration fee of 1,000 baht may be charged in favor of the insurer.

If you purchase code 120 insurance, your financial responsibility is usually limited. Here's a breakdown:

Repairs on Koh Phangan:

Your maximum liability for light or medium damage (scratches or bent sheet metal, damaged bumpers, etc.) is 6,000 baht; Engine issues, Dead battery, Lost keys, or damage to extras (GPS, child seats), and the car's interior = Up to 30,000 baht for damages.

Repatriation for repair: If the car has serious damage and requires transportation to Surat Thani for repair, you will be responsible for the repatriation cost (which can be up to 15,000 baht) in addition to any other applicable allowance.
You are liable for injuries to passengers, other drivers or any other party. You are liable for damages to the property of passengers, other drivers or any other party.

Why do I need to pay a security deposit for a car rental?

We understand that paying a security deposit might seem inconvenient, but it serves an important purpose in protecting both you and our vehicles. Here's why:

Protecting the Car:

Discouraging irresponsible behavior: The deposit incentivizes responsible use of the car, knowing there are financial consequences for damage or loss.

Covering potential costs: In cases where a car is returned damaged, abandoned, or missing, the deposit helps offset the expenses of recovery, repair, or cleaning.

Promoting Responsible Rentals:

Setting clear expectations: By requiring a deposit, we communicate the importance of taking good care of the car and set clear expectations for renters.

Encouraging transparency: Knowing a deposit is at stake often leads to more open communication about any issues that may arise during the rental period.

Addressing Your Concerns:

Accessibility: We understand that deposits can be a hurdle for some renters and we strive to keep our deposits reasonable.

Disputes: We have clear policies and procedures for assessing damage and handling deposit deductions. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.

Remember: Our goal is to provide a smooth and enjoyable rental experience for everyone. The security deposit plays a vital role in ensuring the responsible use of our vehicles and protecting both you and our business.
